Hand in Hand USA was founded because of a tremendous need for humanitarian aid in Orissa, India that was caused by the super cyclone in the year 1999, the drought and famine in 2000, and subsequently the severe magnitude of the flood in 2001. These disasters killed thousands and displaced millions and made the life of people in the coastal region of Orissa (located on the East coast of India) very miserable and vulnerable in all aspects of life.
A group of us felt responsible to give nack to the society and so we came together and formed HIH USA. It was registered as a charitable organization in 2002 and its board members were selected from a core group of educated and respected members who could lead the organization and its members to its established charters.
