Reaching Out Where Needed Most

Hand in Hand USA was founded because of a tremendous need for humanitarian aid in Orissa, India which was made more severe by the super cyclone in the year 1999, the drought and famine in 2000, and subsequently the flood in 2001. These disasters killed tens of thousands, displaced millions, and made the life of people in the coastal region of Orissa (located on the East coast of India) very miserable and vulnerable. Poverty in India is widespread with the nation estimated to have a third of the world's poor, and the poverty rate in rural Orissa (60%) is among the most extreme on the planet. Illiteracy and limited or no access to clean water are also major problems in this region.

Hand In Hand USA is a group of volunteers who have come together to help rebuild this impoverished region by providing free healthcare to thousands of poor people and free education to hundreds of orphaned and destitute children. While the majority of the organization's projects serve this region, Hand In Hand USA's charitable efforts are not limited to India. Humanitarian aid has also been given to support the relief work in response to natural disasters around the world including the 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami, hurricanes in Florida and Louisiana, and most recently the earthquake in Haiti.

We were granted 501(c)(3) status  as non-profit charitable tax exempt organization in 2002.
